Steve Weingarten is a journalist and communications consultant, who has worked for Cox Newspapers, the Los Angeles Times and The New York Times as a foreign reporter. He has worked with corporate, legal, nonprofit and labor clients since 1999, and has been strongly involved with the United Teachers Los Angeles and Service Employees International Union.
Weingarten originally wrote the article “The Life and Curious Death of Rubén Salazar” in 1981 for the Los Angeles Reader, and has spent the last 32 years researching the case. He worked with Sally Salazar in 1980 to seek the full and unredacted release of files pertaining to Ruben Salazar via FOIA requests to government agencies such as the FBI, CIA, DOJ and more.
