Tom Wilson

Former L.A. County Sheriff's Deputy

Tom Wilson is a former L.A. County Sheriff’s deputy responsible for firing the tear-gas canister that killed Ruben Salazar at the Silver Dollar bar. During the inquest he was cleared of any criminal wrongdoing, but he has admitted to accidentally firing a torpedo-shaped tear-gas projectile used for piercing doors rather than the crowd control-style tear-gas canister typically used in such situations. Wilson has repeatedly said he had no knowledge of who Salazar was prior to the shooting.
